I love what I do!

Last night I got to witness the amount of love a husband and wife develop over many years spent together and through sickness and in health how that love continues to exist and be an important part of their day to day life.  There's not a night I go to bed without kissing my husband and telling him that I love him. It is something I look forward to and enjoy.  I never thought for a moment that when we get older that it will stop and after last night at work I know that love can last through all the years and survive even in a nursing facility.  The couple I took care of last night on my hall share a room.  The husband was already in bed when I arrived at work and the wife was sitting next to his bed watching tv with him.  I asked her if she would like to take a shower and then go to bed, she was less thrilled about the shower and more happy about going to bed, but tolerated the shower for my sake.  After her shower she said "can I kiss my husband good night?" I was like "absolutely!" I had never been asked that before but my heart melted a little for the fact that she had to ask.  So I wheeled her chair next to his bed and as they struggled to reach each others lips I couldn't help but to smile and think about all the love they must have for each other.  It's not everyday that I get to say that I love my job and love what I do, but more often than not, I do love what I do and last night was one of those days that filled my heart with joy that I can help make someones day or night a little bit better, a little more like home and a little more happy!

It's the little things that really matter in life! The kisses goodnight, the wet puppy kisses in the morning, the small little smile and the laughter of the people you love that matter most, not how much money you have, the car you drive or the house you live in.  :) Life is good just because!
